An aerial Missing Man Formation Maneuver opens Tualatin’s Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 29 at Winona Cemetery, 9900 SW Tualatin Road, at 10:45am. The flyover is narrated by retired Marine aviator Norb Murray. This event is followed by a free picnic at Tualatin Community Park.
This year’s honored vet, Jerry Larsen had a significant role in the first major US joint military offensive action, Operation Starlite, in the Vietnam War. A Naval Academy graduate, Jerry put together the Navy Communications plan and oversaw its operation.
U.S. Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici is the featured speaker and will be joined by State Senator Richard Devlin, State Representative Julie Parish and Tualatin Mayor Lou Ogden. George Bowlsby from Tualatin’s United Methodist Church is giving the opening prayer and Kathy Walsh will recite the tradition poem “In Flander’s Field”. Other highlights include Tualatin High School’s choral group, the Crimsonnairs, Tualatin’s Police Department Honor Guard and bugler Martin Murrell closing the event with taps.
