Come help us celebrate the diversity of wildlife on Saturday, May 18, at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge in Sherwood. Participate in enjoyable and educational activities that strengthen our connection with the natural world.
Early morning bird walks for birding enthusiasts begin at 5:30 a.m. From 9 a.m. to noon, Tualatin Riverkeepers will offer paddle trips on the river from their Tigard location. See the website below to register or call 503-218-2580. Family activities run from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Enjoy pond study, casting clinic for fish, migration golf, gyotaku (Japanese fish printing on fabric), nature and flower walks, and Portland Audubon’s live bird show. Build a bird or bat house or a bee board. Watch local artist Gene Mulkey as he carves and paints beautiful bird sculptures. Feel free to ask him questions about his work.
Have you wondered what tools and techniques refuge staff use to restore and conserve habitats? Go “behind the scenes” with Deputy Refuge Manager, John Gahr to find out at 2 p.m.
Explore exhibits by fellow conservation organizations. Participate in a basic digital photography workshop at 4:30 p.m. Conclude the day with a twilight walk at 6:30 p.m. There will be lots of activities for adults and children, food and music throughout the day.
