His songs show a deep love for American roots music\, but also a bold experimental streak and willingness to pursue all kinds of music.  Jack grew up playing bluegrass in Alaska\, New York and the Northwest\, and is a fluent picker of the mandolin\, guitar\, banjo\, and a fiddler as well.  He is undeniably gifted as a musical technician\, but more importantly\, as an entertainer and communicator.
