DESCRIPTION:The National Disaster Preparedness Training Center (NDPTC)\, at University of Hawaii\, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are bringing a series of FREE FEMA-certified classes to our area. \n\n\n\nCourse:  Social Media for Natural Disaster Response & Recovery (PER-304)\n\nThis course focuses on the use of social media in disaster preparedness\, response\, and recovery.  Social media has shown to help people communicate and collaborate about events as the events unfold.  Social media can provide rapid and immediate real-time information about events that helps provide greater situational awareness leading to better decision making.  Participants are provided with the knowledge and skills to integrate social media into their current communication plans. The course defines social media and its uses and identifies the tools\, methods\, and models to properly make use of social media in the context of disaster management and provides the information and hands-on experience necessary to help the participants' social media disaster plans.\n\n\n\nCourse Modules include:\n\n Introduction to Social Media\n\n Understanding the Use of Social Media and Disaster Management\n\n Implementing Different Social Media Platforms for Disaster Management\n\n Facebook Hands-On\n\n Twitter Hands-On\n\n Crowdsourcing & Data Mining\n\n\n\nThe first course being offered here through this exclusive program will be held on Tuesday\, May 26th\, 2015.  There is a limit of 40 total participants for this class.
